Welcome to the website of the Amsterdam Book Market at the Spui

Old, rare, second hand and out-of-print books. Every Friday all kind of books are to be found at the Spui Book market in Amsterdam. For over 20 years this book market attracts booklovers from the Netherlands as well as from abroad. They all know: this is the place to look for that one book still missing. Special books, interesting books, captivating books, exploratory books, thrilling books: books of almost every subject are on display. There is even more to be found. Lovers of old prints, pamphlets, posters, documents or periodicals may find an interesting subject, too. The books are not only in Dutch but also English, French, German or even another language.

The whole year around every Friday some 25 booksellers from all over the Netherlands bring their books to this market, which is to be found in the very heart of old Amsterdam.

Booklovers search to their heart’s content for that one missing piece in their collection in almost all weather.

Have you always been looking for that one book? Or trying to find that document from days long gone by? It could be here on a stall. If you don’t find what you are looking for? Just ask the booksellers. They have more books, prints or documents in stock than can be displayed at one Friday market.

When and where

The Book market at the Spui is every Friday, the whole year around. Business hours are from 10 am till 6 pm. Only force majeure (e.g. very bad weather) prevents the booksellers from displaying their books. This happens rarely. A stiff breeze or rainy weather is no reason to stop the market.
The Spui is a small square in the centre of Amsterdam, in front of the well-known Beguinage. You’ll find the Spui on the map below. From Amsterdam Central Station the market can easily be reached by tram 1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 16, 24 or 25.
If you prefer to walk it is only a stroll of some 15 minutes from the Central Station.
